Function
To study the following: establishing a mechanism to ascertain the prevalence of gynecologic cancers in the State and, to the extent possible, to collect statistics relative to the timing of diagnosis and risk factors associated with gynecologic cancers; determining how to best effectuate early diagnosis and treatment for gynecologic cancer patients; determining best practices for closing disparities in outcomes for gynecologic cancer patients and innovative approaches to reaching underserved and vulnerable populations; determining any unmet needs of persons with gynecologic cancers and those of their families; and providing recommendations for additional legislation, support programs, and resources to meet the unmet needs of persons with gynecologic cancers and their families

Composition
A representative of the Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, appointed by the Director of Public Health; The Director of Insurance, or his or her designee; and 20 members who shall be appointed as follows: three members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, one of whom shall be a survivor of ovarian cancer, one of whom shall be a survivor of cervical, vaginal, vulvar, or uterine cancer, and one of whom shall be a medical specialist in gynecologic cancers; three members appointed by the Senate President, one of whom shall be a survivor of ovarian cancer, one of whom shall be a survivor of cervical, vaginal, vulvar, or uterine cancer, and one of whom shall be a medical specialist in gynecologic cancers; three members appointed by the House Minority Leader, one of whom shall be a survivor of ovarian cancer, one of whom shall be a survivor of cervical, vaginal, vulvar, or uterine cancer, and one of whom shall be a medical specialist in gynecologic cancers; three members appointed by the Senate Minority Leader, one of whom shall be a survivor of ovarian cancer, one of whom shall be a survivor of cervical, vaginal, vulvar, or uterine cancer, and one of whom shall be a medical specialist in gynecologic cancers; and eight members appointed by the Governor, one of whom shall be a caregiver of a woman diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer, one of whom shall be a medical specialist in gynecologic cancers, one of whom shall be an individual with expertise in community based health care and issues affecting underserved and vulnerable populations, 2 of whom shall be individuals representing gynecologic cancer awareness and support groups in the State, one of whom shall be a researcher specializing in gynecologic cancers, and 2 of whom shall be members of the public with demonstrated expertise in issues relating to the work of the Commission
